Infinite Canvas & Real-Time Cross-Browser Workspace Synchronization
The Problem
Active retail and institutional traders operate across multiple browser windows, tabs, and external displays. They experienced state desynchronization, layout drift, and UI thread lag when attempting to pan, zoom, and link widgets across complex multi-window trading setups during high-volatility market open spikes.
Why It Was Hard
Synchronizing freeform infinite canvas coordinates, multi-widget linking (color-coded symbol groups connecting charts, order books, and depth ladders), and real-time market data across multiple disconnected browser tabs and windows without race conditions, memory leaks, or dropped websocket ticks.
What I Architected & Built
Engineered an infinite canvas architecture with hardware-accelerated 2D viewport transformations, widget docking rails, and template serialization. Implemented a deterministic cross-browser synchronization layer using BroadcastChannel and bidirectional websocket events to replicate active symbol context, canvas viewport states, and linked widget parameters in real time across browser tabs and displays. Offloaded tick calculations to Web Workers to ensure rock-solid 60fps responsiveness. Accelerated delivery and refactoring using AI-assisted engineering pipelines, modernizing 314 files to strict TypeScript and reaching 90% unit test coverage.
Measurable Impact
- ✓Instantaneous sub-10ms cross-browser state synchronization across multi-tab and multi-monitor trader setups.
- ✓Silky 60fps infinite canvas panning, zooming, and freeform widget organization under peak market volume.
- ✓Bi-directional widget linking enabling color-coded symbol synchronization across order books, option chains, and charts.
- ✓Pioneered AI-assisted development velocity: modernized 314 files to strict TypeScript architecture and drove test coverage to 90%+.
- ✓Delivered major trading workflows: complete order rewrite, fractional orders, short/cover, and SPX/SPXW weeklies.
